How long is the junior season
We start pre-season training in late February. Pre-season training is not compulsory as we recognise it can clash with summer sports, but it is recommended. Our season usually starts in early April and continues until late August/early September.
Do coaches have Working with Children checks?
The safety and protection of the children at our club is of utmost importance. All coaches are required to provide a valid Working with Children Check clearance.
Can girls play AFL?
AFL is a great sport for girls, and pathways for senior girls are improving all the time. Girls play alongside boys in junior teams up until Under 14's. After that, they can choose to join our Under 18.5 Girls team.
Is it a contact sport?
While AFL is a contact sport, tackling is first introduced in Under 8's in a limited way, but full tackling is allowed from Under 10's onwards
Do I need to buy a uniform?
The playing is included as part of the registration process for all age groups apart from seniors. A $50 deposit will be required but this will be returned at the end of the year when the jumper is returned to the club. You will need to purchase EDFL approved shorts and socks from the club prior to the first game. You’ll need to provide a pair of football boots.
What about a Mouthguard?
Mouthguards are compulsory in Under 10's and above.
Who coaches my child?
In most cases, coaches and team managers are team parents. All coaches are required to undertake a coaching accreditation course, run by AFLVic. All coaches are required to provide a valid Working with Children Check to the Club. We encourage all parents to participate in the running of the Club, which is solely run by volunteers. Whether that’s cutting oranges for half-time, helping out in the canteen, or a regular commitment such as coaching, managing, or taking on an administrative role, we’d love to see how you can be part of our community.
